They may seem small, but many of the species are known to migrate long distances. Interesting thing is that these migrations take place over a number of generations and no single individual completes the whole trip!
Depending on the species, adult stage butterflies can live anywhere from a week to nearly a year. For many of them, larval stages last much longer.
Butterflies use their antennae to sense air for wind and scents. It comes in various shapes and colors and is richly covered in sensory organs known as sensillae. They also have a sense of taste!!
There are only tree insects species listed on Appendix I of CITES, which covers all species threatened with extinction. All of the 3 insects are butterflies and among them is Queen Alexandra's birdwing which is at the same time largest butterfly in the world!
