Here are some fun facts:
  • Deer are part of the Cervidae family that include moose, reindeer, elk and other species.
  • Male deer grow new antlers each year.
  • During the mating season male deer will often use their antlers to fight for the attention of female deer.
  • Deer take their first steps within half an hour of their birth.
  • Young deer will usually stay with their mother for around a year.
  • Deer live all over both North and South America, mainly in forests and tall prairie grass.
  • Deer are herbivores, which means that they only eat plants and grass.
  • They are able to run up to 30 miles per hour (48 kmh)
  • The lifespan of deer is from 10 to 25 years depending on the species; though many die long before then due to predators or environmental dangers such as collisions with cars.
  • Deer are crepuscular; feeding mainly from before dawn until several hours after, and again from late afternoon until dusk.
